ASTM Group and Sinelec technology at Climate Week NYC with the A4 Turin-Milan Highway of the Future Project

ASTM Group will bring Italian innovation to Climate Week NYC 2024, unveiling the A4 Turin-Milan Highway of the Future project. Climate Week since 2009 has brought together every year key players from government, business and civil society who meet to address the crisis, drive change and support projects already put in place. The event, scheduled Sept. 22-29, is organized in partnership with the United Nations General Assembly, in coordination with the United Nations and the City of New York.

As part of the NEST Climate Campus (Sept. 24-26), a forum dedicated to the promotion of sustainable solutions for the circular economy and, more specifically, within the “Mobility, Transportation and Sustainable Travel” section, ASTM will present the project that will make the A4 Turin-Milan one of the most advanced and green highways in Italy and Europe. This complex intervention of digital and ecological transition represents the Group’s innovative and sustainable vision of mobility, where technology and attention to the environment come together to create a transportation system that is more efficient, safer and provides a better travel experience for users.

Among the planned innovations, in addition to the new road pavement made of graphene and recycled hard plastics, Sinelec installed along the motorway the first-ever rainwater collection and reuse system. This innovative infrastructure is designed to efficiently capture rainwater, which will be stored in reservoirs for future use. The collected water will be reintegrated into the motorway’s ecosystem, providing resources for toll stations and nearby service areas for everyday cleaning operations. Additionally, these water reserves will be available for external entities located near the system for industrial purposes and potentially for agricultural use.

Moreover, Sinelec will extend the use of the vehicle-infrastructure dialogue systems (V2X), the application of average vehicle speed detection and traffic monitoring systems, the expansion of the infrastructure sensor system, the use of dynamic weight control systems for heavy traffic, along with wrong-way detection systems and technology for monitoring environmental conditions and hazardous materials.
