SINELEC USA Awarded Commercial Vehicle Management System Contract

SINELEC has been awarded a contract with the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) to install a state-of-the-art Commercial Vehicle Management System (CVMS) as part of their construction of a new commercial vehicle enforcement facility (CVEF). The CVEF will be located westbound on I-80, in Solano County in California. This facility is being built in partnership with California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the California Transportation Commission.

The facility is expected to process 1000 trucks an hour that will increase enforcement capacity, improve travel times, and improve safety by reducing back-ups on the highway. Sinelec is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the CVMS system.

Sinelec’s system will measure, identify, and track vehicles that are overweight, over dimensional, out of regulatory compliance, and have unsafe tires or overheating brakes. This will be completed by installing a series of state-of-the-art sensors overhead at strategic locations on the highway, along the ramps and at the inspection facility.

The vehicles will be routed to 1 of 4 lanes based on issues detected by the system. At the inspection facility, the system will provide recommendations to the officers through a user interface. The officers will then make the determination if the vehicle needs further inspection. Traffic lights and variable message signs will direct the vehicles to the proper inspection location. This technology will allow the CVEF to process more than 3 times the number of vehicles per hour compared to current facilities.
