03 Oct 2018 Sinelec wins contract for smart road implementation on Italy’s A90 and A91
Sinelec S.p.A., a Gavio group company, leader in the design and installation of technology systems for transport infrastructure, has been awarded the contract for the ANAS Smart Road on the A90 “Grande Raccordo Anulare di Roma” and A91 “Roma-Fiumicino Airport” motorways, as leader of a grouping of companies that includes Autostrade Tech S.p.A., Alpitel S.p.A. and EUROIMPIANTI S.p.A.
The contract, awarded as a framework agreement by means of a public tender procedure, is worth EUR 30 million.
The project involves the implementation of specialised and innovative digital solutions to optimise traffic management and increase the safety of metropolitan motorways, such as the A90 and A91, which face busy peak periods on a daily basis as traffic enters and leaves the urban area.
The backbone of the digitalisation process will be the new C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) services identified by the European Union and based on V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) communications, that will allow all the parties involved in the mobility ecosystem to communicate intelligently, safely and comprehensively.
Smart roadside monitoring systems will also be put in place, providing the information needed to feed innovative decision-making support tools through IoT platforms.
The initiative guarantees energy sustainability through the construction of special areas known as “Green Islands”, which will generate electricity from renewable sources to run the new technology infrastructure and will also be used promote the development and wider use of electric vehicles.
